We are away from home this week and taking advantage of the double-digit temps in Southern California. I’m snuggled up in bed with the three kids, all of us arranged like some sort of Tetris game. The kiddos are sleeping peacefully beside me after a wonderful beach adventure this morning. My clothes are making my skin hurt because I’ve got terrible sun burn on all of my extremities as I was so worried about the kids I completely spaced putting on my sunscreen. (I’m certain this is the same concept as when the flight attendants tell adults to put their mask on first in case of an emergency. Self care, self-care, self-care)
We don’t travel often, and when we do it seems like a major undertaking. Taking the puppies along for the ride is new for us – they’re usually home with a dog sitter but I am always sick to my stomach missing them if we don’t have them.
Charlie is so attached to them that I knew he would also struggle to be away from them for so long. So I somehow managed to talk Carver into a road trip with the entire crazy crew.
We have already needed to make three trips to the store and do several loads of laundry which has all been made easier by having my family with us. Extra hands and sanity is always welcome when you’ve got a toddler+pup crew. In the grand scheme of things I know these are easy fixes but I can’t help but wonder, are there mommas out there who are able to pack exactly what their family needs (and they themselves need) plus manage to keep things clean or not run out??? I’m mystified by this prospect…
Some of our favorite things thus far have been:
We have crossed several things off of our Summer Bucket List and will tackle a few more before we head back to Phoenix in the coming days. How are you all doing on your summer bucket list? Do you have any recommendations of things we should add to our San Diego Must Do List??
