I can’t tell you how many people told me that in the days since I found out I was pregnant and again since he was born. I received lots of other advice but that was by far the most common. I think my favorite advice was actually two-fold:
1. Wine will get you through
2. Daddies are not mommies
Wise words from the mom of a now 13-month old. I’m just about 7 weeks into momma-hood and I can say those two bits of advice are dead on. Though I’m swapping the wine for beer (hello Papago Orange Blossom!!!) but it still works. As for that second piece- before delivery I thought that meant decision making. Now I know it’s even deeper- it’s a biologic difference in how little man responds to us. He loves his daddy over just about everyone else but he also knows when I’m in the room just like I know what the cries mean.
While I’m still working on the sleeping advice (Cody & Sophie need attention and loving too), I’m getting better. They say the post-delivery adrenaline rush wears off around 8 weeks so I’m trying to rest up for that… And fuel up on chocolate and cookies. After all I didn’t crave sweets while pregnant so I have some catching up to do! While scrolling through my social media accounts during one of our nursing sessions I saw The Pioneer Woman shared a recipe for triple chocolate cookies – within three hours the first batch was coming out of the oven. Even Cody was trying to get in on them (notice the impressive spit bubble…).
