Applesauce snacking cake

November 14, 2014

One thing about living in Phoenix that I still haven’t gotten used to is the very warm temperatures late into the year. In Las Vegas, November would get ‘chilly’, with highs in the 60s or 70s- but here for the past several weeks we have been in the upper 70s and nearly up to 90 degrees (in NOVEMBER). That throws the whole fall schedule off – i.e. apples in August/September, pumpkin in October/November. It’s as though we are always 3+ weeks behind the seasonal food trends of the rest of the country.

A few mornings ago, while sipping on coffee and watching the news, Carver turned to me and said, “I think it’s time for apple treats.” We had finally gotten a good batch of apples from the store and the weather had ticked below 90 degrees. The following weekend I made this beauty. Since then he’s informed me that we still need more apple treats. In fact he went so far as to list off all the ingredients for an apple crisp to see if we had them in the house… I’ve yet to make it for him. I figure I have to stretch these things out and make him wait a bit.
